Makom Community is a Jewish enrichment center that creates family-centered Jewish experiences. We empower parents to build a Jewish life that is meaningful for their family. We welcome the excitement of children. And we strive to create an environment where it is safe for parents to learn alongside their children. We cultivate fluency and comfort in Jewish tradition through our joyful youth and family experiences. Not only is Makom Community a Jewish community committed to creating a more just world, we’re also committed to building a Jewish community that is open to anyone who wants to engage with Jewish traditions alongside their family.

About the Founder

Beverly is a Jewish educator who loves making Jewish life meaningful in out-of-the box ways that work well for each person. She has done that running a school out of the trunk of her car, building urban young adult community, and now founding Makom Community in fall of 2014 to create the kind of Jewish education she imagines for her own daughter.

David Zvi is co-founder and Executive Director of Jewish Public Media, an online producer of Jewish audio content. In his spare time he is a doctoral student at University of Pennsylvania and founder of Print-O-Craft LLC, an independent publishing house. Born and raised in Toronto, David Zvi lives with his wife and offspring in Mt. Airy.

Every community lacking access to healthy food and employment should have a garden and a “Root” to market. Parkside’s Roots-To-Market is helping Camden households grow and sell healthy fresh produce direct from their private yards. Free support and training are given to all participating households at a full-sized demonstration urban farm, the Parkside Learning Garden.

About the Founder

A Philly resident since 2005, Jonathan is committed to making communities better for everyone. Promoting public supported visions for future development, he began his career as a land use planner for local governments. He now helps local organizations on the implementation side of these plans as a consultant in community and economic development.

We prove that Israel is more than just camels and religious or political conflict!

About the Founder

Natale grew up near Philadelphia but moved to Israel to make aliyah at age 17. She graduated with a BA in Communications from IDC, Herzliya where she took a strong interest in promoting social consciousness and Israel advocacy. While living in Tel Aviv, Natale drew inspiration from the multicultural, vibrant streets which essentially sparked the idea behind Jouvenir.

In collaboration with institutions in Philadelphia and beyond, the Feinstein Center bridges the gap between scholarship and public conversation on Jewish culture, history, and identity.

About the Founder

Ariella Werden-Greenfield, PhD is the Assistant Director of the Feinstein Center for American Jewish History. Ariella’s passion for the study of American Jewish culture inspired her to pursue her doctorate in Religion. But, it was as an instructor at Temple University that she recognized her love for teaching college students and for curating public programs, thereby providing opportunities for lifelong learning. In her work at the Feinstein Center, Ariella plans and promotes exciting and intellectually rigorous events for Philadelphia’s vibrant Jewish community. She also directs Feinstein’s Jewish professional internship program.
Her research interests include Jewish history in the Caribbean, Afro-Caribbean religion, and Jewish food culture.

Shana is a graduate of Drexel Law School and an attorney in Philadelphia. Always passionate about serving survivors of intimate partner crimes, Shana has worked with victim advocacy groups and prosectors’ offices in the Greater Philadelphia area. Shana is thrilled to finally realize her dream of using her legal skills to serve her Jewish community.

She also earned her Board-Certification (certificate # 25456) from the American Naturopathic Medical Certification Board (ANMCB) and has additional credentials as a Certified Holistic Health Care Practitioner from the American Naturopathic and Holistic Association (ANHA) and is a Certified Nutritional Consultant. Her passion for natural health care started early in her life, earning her first a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Exercise Science with a concentration in Nutrition from Fairmont State University.
