Join the Whitemarsh Art Center for our lecture series “Art Around the World”. These lectures are FREE to attend and open to the public. Wine, light refreshments and appetizers will be served.
This month’s guest lecturers are performance artists Kelsey Lee, Ami Yares and Chris Tamburro. Kelsey Lee is an entrepreneur, teacher and hoop and fire dancer. She’ll be discussing why she started the Philadelphia Spin Coalition (SpinCo) and how the world-wide network of traveling and hosting performers lead to the growth of Flow Arts, a fusion of performance art and prop manipulation that took Philly and the rest of the United States by storm. Ami Yares is a 12-string guitar wielding, world traveling folk musician and peace builder. He also serves as a global ambassador for Heartbeat, the Palestinian and Israeli youth music program, and is the executive director of BuildaBridge International, an NGO dedicated to serving marginalized populations through the transformative power of the arts. Chris Tamburro is a multi-talented performance artist and teacher. He practices juggling, fire eating, hooping and the Maori art of poi spinning. Poi spinning began as a hobby for him but led to his joining Spark Circus in 2016 and 2017. He toured throughout Thailand teaching circus arts to Burmese refugees, orphans and at-risk youth.
