Rabbi follows 15 years in the epic story of Rabbi Amichai Lau-Lavie, a 21st century spiritual innovator. Amichai descends from 39 generations of rabbis, including his uncle and cousin, Chief Rabbis of Israel. He shows how religion—radically reinvented for now—can be a potent force for human rights and global dignity, and creatively brings ancient ritual alive for our world today – with hilarious and surprising twists. He launched Lab/Shul in New York – an everybody-friendly, God-optional, artist-driven, pop-up experimental congregation – www.labshul.org.
Sandi DuBowski is the award-winning director of Trembling Before G-d. The Amichai Film Project is supported by The Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program, Jeffrey Solomon, The Barbara Dobkin Foundation, The Nathan Cummings Foundation, Bertha Foundation, Catapult Film Fund, Hartley Film Foundation, The van Ameringen Foundation, Benjamin Lowy, S. Asher Gelman, The Queer Evolution Fund of Tides Foundation on recommendation of Craig Harwood, The Ullman Family Foundation, The Dorot Foundation, NYSCA, The Shelley and Donald Rubin Foundation, Daryl & Steven Roth Foundation, and Reboot.
