Would you like to learn the art of the frame drum? In a world full of rushing, disconnection, and chaos, the frame drum – the world’s oldest instrument – can be an amazing antidote. This class will soothe your nervous system, shift you into a feeling more connected, and strengthen your own inner rhythm.
In Jewish tradition, this is Miriam’s drum, the “Tof Miriam” that Miriam and the women played to celebrate freedom after crossing the Red Sea. Experience the liberation of drumming for yourself! This session is led by Natanya Apfelbaum who has studied the frame drum in Sicily at the Bottega delle Percussioni and Arci Tavola Tonda, online with Miranda Rondeau and Yshai Afterman, and in Turkey with Mert Nar and other teachers.
This class is an introduction to the upright style of the frame drum, the most ancient way of playing the drum. No musical experience is required. Expect to learn the basic strokes and a couple of rhythms to play.
