Redemption | Lindy CineMondays 2019 Opening Night Film! #1

Menachem (Moshe Folkenflik), a devout, middle-aged single father, used to be the lead singer of a popular Israeli rock band. Leaving it all behind to pursue a pious life, he never imagined he would be getting the band back together to play the Jewish wedding circuit — especially not as a means of funding his seven-year-old daughter’s expensive cancer treatments. For Menachem, there is nothing like playing music again, and for a moment, talk of a reunion tour doesn’t sound like a bad plan. Still, in the process of reconnecting with his secular past, the widowed Hasid is having difficulty reconciling his religious beliefs with the allure of music. His journey has reopened old wounds, obliging Menacham to confront his shortcomings, redeem himself, and move forward with his life with an open heart.

With its rousing musical performances and emotionally honest screenplay, REDEMPTION is a powerful return to form for two of Israel’s foremost filmmakers, Joseph Madmony and Boaz Yehonatan Yacov.
