This is the June edition of our Shabbat Exploration Series!
We will be attending services and enjoying lunch at Congregation Mikveh Israel in Old City. Mikveh Israel, also known as ‘the synagogue of the American Revolution’, is an Orthodox synagogue founded in 1740, pre-dating America! The style of prayer is western Sephardi (also known as Spanish-Portuguese) with a service essentially identical to what was done when the synagogue was founded.
This experience will include participating in services beginning from 9:15-11:30am followed by an outdoor (!) Kosher catered Shabbat lunch (vegan options available). Mikveh Israel is welcoming a guest lecturer that weekend so we will enjoy a talk by Dr. Michael Auslin from the Hoover Institution about the American Revolution. We are so grateful to our friends at Mikveh Israel for welcoming us warmly into their historic space!
