Creating United Empowerment (CUE) Launch Party

June 6, 2018 by Alanna Raffel

Party for a purpose! Please join us to share our vision and celebrate the public launch of Creating United Empowerment (CUE)!

Creating United Empowerment (CUE) is a nonprofit online art gallery that donates 40% of its sales to nonprofit organizations that empower women to thrive in the face of oppression. CUE focuses this support on survivors of sexual/domestic violence, LGBTQIA+ women, and women of ethnic/racial minorities.

We’re inviting our community to celebrate our public launch over some good food, drinks, and live music. This is a chance to connect with people who have a passion for art and social good, meet the team behind the organization, and invest in original artwork made by local women and genderqueer artists.

40% of the sales will be donated to Women Against Abuse. Help us empower women to thrive in the face of oppression.

**CUE is inclusive and accepting of all people who identify with, as, or stand with women and genderqueer people.**

Escape from Yemen: An AJC ACCESS Happy Hour Program featuring Mohammed al Samawi

March 27, 2018 by Aleeza Ben Shalom

Mohammed Al Samawi is a human rights activist who fled Yemen with the help of AJC. Raised to think of Jews as his enemy, Mohammed has since become a champion of Muslim-Jewish dialogue. Please join us to hear about the current situation in Yemen, prospects for peace in the region, and the harrowing tale of how Mohammed escaped from a building full of al-Qaeda operatives, with the assistance of AJC and peace activists, to arrive in the US.

The program is generously hosted by Elijah Dornstreich, AJC Philadelphia Executive Committee Member, at Bernstein. This program will include beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres, and prior registration is required to attend. Please contact Max Buchdahl, AJC Philadelphia’s ACCESS Associate, at buchdahlm.temp@ajc.org with questions and to RSVP. We hope to see you on March 27!

*ACCESS AJC is the place for young Jewish professionals in their 20s and 30s who want to work with peers from across the globe to change the world.

Climate Solutions Expo

March 26, 2018 by Rachel Waxman

Last year was the hottest year on record. Until this year. And next year will be even hotter.

This November, our election cycle will come and go, but climate change will remain a growing threat. Our mission at PennEnvironment is to continue to highlight the urgent work that can be done on environmental issues before, during, and after elections. As such, we are hosting a “Climate Solutions Expo” for Montgomery County on March 26th, co-sponsored by Haverford College.

The goal of this event is to engage new members of our community, hear about concrete cases of how we can take action to confront climate change, and participate in tangible tactics that leverage science and research to promote thoughtful public policy and make a difference. As PennEnvironment is an advocacy organization, we use many of these tactics every day – such as writing Letters to the Editor, calling elected officials, petitioning campaigns, recording videos, lobbying, and more.

Climate change is already threatening Montgomery County, causing worsening flooding, higher rates of insect-borne disease, and increasing heat-induced mortality. Yet we also have the people and the potential to stand up for our health, our pocketbooks, and our planet. We hope you’ll join us, and be a part of the solution!

For more details, please contact PennEnvironment’s Montgomery County Organizer, Shana Gallagher: email: shana@pennenvironment.org; phone: 4154809729.
