DIY Haggadah Jam

March 30, 2020 by Davinica Nemtzow

How will you be telling the Passover story this year?

With a zine!

Join us for an evening of creativity and community and design a custom haggadah for the personalized Passover Seder you’ve always wanted. Choose from provided poems, prayers, stories, readings, and images for each step of the Seder, or bring your own found or self-created contributions to compile a Passover Haggadah that will be meaningful for you and your guests. The possibilities are endless! We’ll have readings that touch on queerness, on diaspora, on disability, on family, on love, and more.

We’ll be ready for you at 5, but please feel free to flow in and out as you please through the evening!

Suggested donation of $5 to cover costs. No one turned away for lack of funds.

Kinky & Kosher

February 21, 2020 by Davinica Nemtzow

It’s no secret that Judaism is one of the most sex-positive religions out there, but did you know there are Shabbat-friendly sex dungeons, that people use tefillin for bondage play, or that you can attend a kinky Passover seder?

Whether you’re intrigued by kink/BDSM and don’t know where to start or just interested in a Jewish lesson that would make your rabbi blush, join Tribe 12 LGBTQIA+ and The Velvet Lily for a meaningful and open conversation that explores the question, “What’s Jewish about kink/BDSM?”

This workshop welcomes folks (21+) of all genders, sexualities, religious identities, and experience levels. A $5 suggested donation is greatly appreciated.

Powerpoint Slide…Into My DMs!

February 7, 2020 by Davinica Nemtzow

If we asked you to list 10 things you love about your queer single friends, you would probably come up with 10,000, right? Help your friend find someone who loves them as much as you do by pitching them to an audience of singles, couples, people who love love, people who couldn’t care less about Valentine’s Day, and everyone in between!

At this week-before-Valentine’s event, you have 3 minutes to share a Powerpoint about your queer single friend to a group of potential soulmates, new friends, and cheerleaders of love. It can be funny or dark, beautifully produced or thrown together, a celebration or a roast. They’ll have 2 minutes to answer questions from the crowd. After the presentations everyone will hang out over drinks and dessert!

New to Philly? Do your friends have stage fright? No worries! Here are your options:

  1. You can pitch yourself
  2. You can have a friend (or friends) pitch you
  3. For $5 Tribe 12’s matchmaker Danielle will pitch you
  4. For $12 comedian and Tribe 12 staffer Ross W. will roast you

**Though the people being pitched should identify as LGBTQIA+ and be interested in dating in Philadelphia’s Jewish community, all are welcome to be pitch-ers and audience members!**

Accessibility:

Tribe 12 seeks to include all individuals regardless of disability (visible or invisible), financial circumstances, or other needs. We try to be transparent about to what extent we can accommodate needs at each individual event. The event location is wheelchair accessible with a wheelchair accessible restroom on the same floor. There will be light music playing. To aid us in accommodating these and other needs for you to fully participate in this event, please email davinica@tribe12.org.

Rosh Chodesh for Everyone

January 24, 2020 by Davinica Nemtzow

For thousands of years, people have gathered under each new moon to eat chocolate and connect with each other for Rosh Chodesh (the beginning of the Hebrew month). This beautiful holiday has traditionally been a space reserved for women because the moon is often associated with femininity. Tribe 12 LGBTQIA+, Repair the World: Philadelphia, and Access Point have come together to create an inclusive Rosh Chodesh experience that asks the question: How can we make our community more welcoming and accessible?

All are welcome to join a bright celebration of Shabbat and the beginning of the month of Shevat! Share riches from the past week and month with a guided meditation for Shevat, conversation around what makes a community accessible, and hot chocolate.

Accessibility: The event location is wheelchair accessible through the main entrance with a wheelchair accessible and gender neutral restroom. A sign language interpreter is available by request. It is a low-scent/no scent space. To aid us in accommodating these and other needs for you to fully participate in this event, please email yo@tribe12.org.
