Letters from the Heart: Spring Edition Kickoff!

February 9, 2021 by Alanna Raffel

The sun is shining, flowers are blooming and it’s time to get in the Mitzvah mood! NextGen is excited to partner with Mitzvah Food Program (MFP) to create 2,000 general springtime holiday cards for their food packages. You are welcome to get as creative as you like with your cards (pre-made or handmade), knowing that they will serve as a small reminder of community and care.

Register here to make cards on your own and/or to join us for our kickoff event to learn about MFP and make cards together: http://bit.ly/38pa7aL

Cards are due at the Jewish Federation by Monday, March 1, 2021. No stamp? No problem! We have contactless drop-off sites throughout Greater Philadelphia. Instructions for making and sending the cards will be sent to you after registration.

Rosh Chodesh for Everyone

January 24, 2020 by Davinica Nemtzow

For thousands of years, people have gathered under each new moon to eat chocolate and connect with each other for Rosh Chodesh (the beginning of the Hebrew month). This beautiful holiday has traditionally been a space reserved for women because the moon is often associated with femininity. Tribe 12 LGBTQIA+, Repair the World: Philadelphia, and Access Point have come together to create an inclusive Rosh Chodesh experience that asks the question: How can we make our community more welcoming and accessible?

All are welcome to join a bright celebration of Shabbat and the beginning of the month of Shevat! Share riches from the past week and month with a guided meditation for Shevat, conversation around what makes a community accessible, and hot chocolate.

Accessibility: The event location is wheelchair accessible through the main entrance with a wheelchair accessible and gender neutral restroom. A sign language interpreter is available by request. It is a low-scent/no scent space. To aid us in accommodating these and other needs for you to fully participate in this event, please email yo@tribe12.org.

Honoring Harvey Milk

November 20, 2019 by Davinica Nemtzow

**This event is open to all queer identities, Jewish identities, and allies.**

BYOB(lanket). Light nosh will be provided.

“If a bullet should enter my brain, let that bullet destroy every closet door in the country.” – Harvey Milk

Harvey Milk was one of the most prolific Jewish LGBTQIA+ activists of our time and made history as the first openly gay elected official in the United States when he won a seat on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in 1977. His remarkable career standing up for all marginalized people was tragically cut short when he was assassinated on Nov 27, 1978, nearly a year after taking office.

Join Tribe 12 and Repair the World Philadelphia for a screening of Milk, a biographical film of Harvey Milk’s life as an activist in honor of the 41st anniversary of his assassination. We’ll light candles in memory of him as well as the hundreds of trans people that have been murdered this year for Trans Day of Remembrance, watch the film, and have a discussion with our fellow LGBTQIA+ activists about the issues facing our Jewish and queer communities today and how we can continue to engage in Milk’s mission of tikkun olam (repairing the world).

ADA accessibility: Ramp in front of the main entrance and workshop is on the first floor. Bathrooms are ADA accessible and gender neutral.
