Greetings Tribeniks, Tribe12ers, Tribesfolx!
(We’re experimenting with some names, let us know what you think!)
After just a month of working with Tribe 12, I easily recognize the incredible community that our organization has been fostering over the years! I’ve met so many interesting and amazing people doing incredible work in our world and in the Jewish community. It has been a pleasure to get to know so many of you and I am looking forward to meeting more of the Tribe 12 community, getting involved and helping to grow and strengthen our unique group!
Tribe 12 has been in a transition phase over the last year as we have taken on new staff and have been re-examining the way in which our community is organized as we emerge from the covid-19 pandemic. For many of us, the last few years have been difficult and isolating and Tribe 12 wants to play a role in kindling new and lasting friendships within the young-professional Jewish community. During my conversations with friends and constituents over the last month, I have heard a couple of recurring needs from our community: more opportunity to make meaningful connections, better consistency in programming and interest in gathering to share Shabbat with other members of the community.
Taking these needs into account, we are piloting a more consistent event schedule in the hope that it will give us all an opportunity to get to know each other more intimately and be recognized as active and involved members of the community. So! Come July we will be running more consistent weekly and monthly events. These include:
First Thursday Happy Hour
Second (usually) Monday Social Justice event with Dann
Third Friday Tribe 12 Shabbat
Fourth (usually) Tuesday Tacos and Torah with Rabbi Megan
Our 20’s and 30’s tribes will continue to run bi-monthly events, of course! The Moon Circle will continue to happen on Rosh Chodesh! And we will have a monthly LGBTQIA+ community gathering (Does anyone like to bowl?)!
Additionally, we will be having a weekly social meet-up every Wednesday (It’s Wednesday, My Dudes!) hosted by yours truly. During the summer we will meet every Wednesday at Uptown Beer Garden for a drink, discussion, check-in and some board games! I look forward to seeing you all there!
Additionally, in August we will kick off our first annual constituent fundraising drive in the hope of raising money to put on more of the fun and engaging activities you love. On Wednesday August 9th we’ll be holding an event where you will have the opportunity to become a Tribe12 sustainer! We will be asking those who would like to become sustainers to make a monthly donation of $12 or $36 to our community. In return for your support, each month you will receive a gift from Tribe 12 – this could include an invite to a special event just for sustainers, ticket compensation for one of our events, a drink ticket to be used at your discretion at a Happy Hour or program or priority sign-up for one of our special events.
As we enter this new era for Tribe 12, we look forward to deepening the already incredible relationships we have built with each other and hope you’ll join us on this journey. As the future of the Jewish people it is up to us to build and sustain sacred community and encourage and support each other as we wander through this crazy little thing called life. We hope that Tribe 12 is and will be a mainstay of your Jewish community involvement and you will join us in building a well-nurtured and sustainable Jewish Future.
B’vracha (with blessings),
Mick Brewer
